TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE

Smith’s Landing First Nation and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada have come to an agreement to provide a Parental Conveyance Transportation Allowance for parents of students that reside on-reserve. This allowance is intended to assist with the cost of travel for students to attend elementary and high school in Fort Smith, NT.

 

Basic Eligibility Criteria:

  • Student must be an SLFN member residing on reserve.

  • Student must attend a First Nation, provincial, or federal school.

  • Student must be registered in Kindergarten to Grade 12 in an accredited school.

  • Student must be on the Nominal Roll.

  • No bus service is available to the closest school offering the appropriate program/grade. (i.e. student resides in a remote location)

  • A student's medical condition is such that riding on a regular bus is not possible, yet the condition does not require that a private vehicle be modified.

  • Where a student has a temporary injury that renders him/her unable to access regular transportation services. (i.e. broken leg)
