Smith’s Landing First Nation and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada have come to an agreement to provide a Parental Conveyance Transportation Allowance for parents of students that reside on-reserve. This allowance is intended to assist with the cost of travel for students to attend elementary and high school in Fort Smith, NT.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
Student must be an SLFN member residing on reserve.
Student must attend a First Nation, provincial, or federal school.
Student must be registered in Kindergarten to Grade 12 in an accredited school.
Student must be on the Nominal Roll.
No bus service is available to the closest school offering the appropriate program/grade. (i.e. student resides in a remote location)
A student's medical condition is such that riding on a regular bus is not possible, yet the condition does not require that a private vehicle be modified.
Where a student has a temporary injury that renders him/her unable to access regular transportation services. (i.e. broken leg)
